A lucuma hot chocolate that is dairy and sugar-free with a fiery kick of cayenne pepper to warm the throat
1 mug of unsweetened almond milk
3 teaspoons of raw cocoa powder
1 teaspoon of lucuma powder
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
1 pinch of cayenne pepper
(Optional) sprinkle of desiccated coconut
Measure out one mug of unsweetened almond milk using the mug that you plan to drink from. Pour the almond milk into a small sauce pan on a high heat. Add all the other ingredients into the pan and whisk until dissolved. When the drink begins to boil, remove from the hob and pour into your mug. If you like a little texture, a sprinkle of desiccated coconut on top is a great addition.
- The cayenne pepper adds a severe kick so use just a tiny pinch to start (you can always add more later). The first time I made this drink it was less a warming, more of a burning, experience.
- Watch the pan at all times as the liquid bubbles up very quickly. Nothing ruins a relaxing hot chocolate more than having to drink it whilst you clean the hob.
